Christmas is one of the most wonderful, and stressful times of the year. One of my family’s favorite traditions is attending the Christmas party at Disney World every year to celebrate the festive season in one of our favorite places. As an annual passholder who’s been to Disney, and its Halloween and Christmas parties more times than I can count I thought I’d share a few tips and tricks to maximize your time and energy at the event.
The following is merely a guideline my family and I go by to get the most out of our stay, but you should always do what’s right for your family. Find a few of your own tricks as you go along and always remember to soak in the magical atmosphere that makes these parties a once in a lifetime experience!
Eat Your Dinner Before
One of the most important tips I can give is to try to eat your dinner before entering the parks. There are generally a limited number of restaurants open after the party starts, and they’re almost always booked solid soon after they become available. If quick service isn’t what you’re looking for I’d suggest looking at the resorts or Disney Springs for tasty sit-down options for the whole family that’s sure to fill you up before your night of magical fun! It’s always difficult to navigate the park on an empty stomach, so fuel up before! (but keep room for that complimentary hot cocoa and cookies!)
Arrive at 4:00
Maximize time by arriving at the parks at around four o clock. A lot of people don’t know that you can actually get into the park with your party ticket at four o’clock, three hours before the party actually starts. Be sure to follow the line for the party entry to receive your wristband you’ll need later on when cast member’s go combing to check them. If you’re already in the park, make sure to check in at one of the wristband stations to get your wristband for the night before seven o’clock!
Grab a Map!
There are special maps dedicated to the party that will give you a great guide as to where to find themed merchandise, characters, dance parties and my favorite…themed snacks! It will also guide you as to when the parade starts and when to expect the night sky to be lit up during “Holiday Wishes” the nightly firework show.
Attend the Second Parade
The first parade is always notoriously packed to the brim which can be stressful and annoying to try and push through or be a part of. Spend that time going on your favorite rides since FastPass + isn’t available during the party. It’s a great time to get around easily and without incident, especially if you want to ride a lot of rides. The party will be packed so it’s a great way to maximize those early hours. The second parade is usually followed by the fireworks right after so make sure you get a seat that makes for great parade and firework viewing. Anywhere around the castle, like around the back near the carousel, and Philharmagic is great. The entrance to Tomorrowland also has some wonderful views of the fireworks. To view both I’d suggest Mainstreet or an area near Frontierland where the parade will go through! It’s a short walk from there to the back of the castle where some great views of the fireworks take place.
Don’t Load Up…
Don’t load up on merchandise when you first get to the park. They’re generally well equipped to have enough of every item for purchase. If there’s one item you really want grab it first that way you’re not searching all night for that one item. Remember you can always ask a cast member where to find something if you’re having no luck on your own. They are so helpful in making an already magical night even brighter!
Free Cookies and Hot Cocoa
Grab some cookies and hot cocoa! They’re free during the party at select locations all night long! Your map will tell you where to find them and remember there is always an option for apple slices and apple juice if you’re looking for a gluten free or healthier option. It’s also great to switch it up so you don’t get tired of one or the other through the night.
Pace Yourself!
There is so much to do at a party night that it can seem so overwhelming. Make sure to hydrate and take periodic breaks whether that’s hopping on a ride or sitting at a bench for a few. It’s great to see everything, but it’s also great to catch your breath every now and then. Don’t run yourself rampant! Look for the little pieces of magic.
Periodically during the party Mainstreet comes alive with a flurry of snow that’s sure to excite the little ones. Warning however – it can and will burn if it gets in your eyes so be careful looking at it for too long. Also make sure to visit the dance party in Tomorrowland for a fun dance break with your favorite Disney characters. They’re fun for the whole family!
The most important tip of all is to have fun! Soak in the magic around you and stop to take it all in. Enjoy family time and cherish these amazing memories you’re creating with those you love the most. There’s nothing like a Disney themed party, and I recommend it to anyone who loves the holidays and has that holiday spirit! Stay tuned for more!
