The Disney Company has been extremely busy the last couple of days with all the information they have been releasing. From Genie + to some much anticipated reopenings, here is the list of Disney updates.
Harmony Barbershop and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
One of my favorite memories is my son’s first haircut on Main Street, it’s such an iconic piece of Magic Kingdom. Since opening day in October of 1971, thousands of kids have gotten the “My First Haircut” package from one of the many barbers on staff. The reopening, on July 31st, marks a special moment for Magic Kingdom, as this is the final locale to reopen since the parks themselves have come back. A limited number of reservations will be available to book through the My Disney Experience app starting on June 28th. Walk-in appointments will be accepted, but on a first come first serve basis.

What about the princesses ? We are all eagerly awaiting for news on Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and it’s projected reopening. As a fan of this experience, and a mother of a princess that has loved this place (numerous times), I am happy to announce they will reopen their doors. While no dates have been released, they have officially said it will be later THIS year for both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Let the glitter start to fly.
Guardians of the Galaxy Virtual Queue
Starting May 27th, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind launches into Epcot and it’s going to be an epic intergalactic chase through space and time. There are few things that you need to know about this virtual queue. Beginning at 7 am, on the day of your park reservation, you will use the My Disney Experience app to check for and join boarding groups. There is also the opportunity to use individual Lighting Lane entry. All of this can be done from your resort, on the bus or anywhere in between.

Starting at 1:00 pm, another virtual queue will open up, and you can follow the same process. This time though, guests must be in Epcot to join the later queue.
Registered guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa Resort and other select hotels get an added perk. Starting at 6:00 pm, on select dates during extended evening hours, guests at these resorts will be able have another chance to join the queue. Guests with this benefit do not have to be in Epcot for this special chance.
All guests will need valid theme park admission and admission to extended hours. To keep it fair, each guest will only be allowed one queue per day.
Additional information, including tips for getting into the virtual queue, is available at disneyworld.com/virtualqueue.
Disney Genie + Changes
Disney has adjusted to how guests purchase Disney Genie+ service at Walt Disney World beginning June 8th. You will need to log into the My Disney Experience app on the day of your visit, it will no longer be available for pre-purchase. This will be in affect for the remainder of 2022 and in 2023. This means that, moving forward, whether you have an Annual Pass, multi- or single-day ticket, you will now purchase Disney Genie+ on the day of your visit via the My Disney Experience app, one day at a time, subject to availability. The Disney Company has decided this is the best course to follow so everyone gets a fair chance. They still predict you will be able to get 2-3 attractions each day with the purchase of Disney Genie+.
