Not So Scary Tips
If you are like me and you love Halloween and Disney, then going to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party is a given. I wait all year for this party. It is my absolute favorite. Don’t get me wrong I love the Christmas party too, but you get more bang for your buck at MNSSHP, in my opinion. I have gone every year for over 8 years.
I am going to share with you some tips and tricks to make the most of your party experience. With your party ticket you can get into the park at 4:00 p.m. but the party will not start until 7:00. We always eat before the party starts. It saves time and you won’t feel rushed. I would also try to get in any rides you want to do. There are no fastpasses during the party but I have been able to work some in between 4 and 7.
Although the party is 7 to 12 it goes by very fast. There is lots of trick or treating, snacks, rides, stage shows, parade etc. We are annual passholders so we can get into the park all day, so we normally don’t have to rush around. That being said, my best advice is do not rush. I know it’s hard and you want to see and do and taste everything but you paid a lot for this event and it is amazing so take your time to stop and enjoy it.
The trick or treat lines can be long but they do move very fast. I am not a big trick or treater but my daughter, who is 19, loves it. Yes, adults can trick or treat during this event too. I felt odd about it at first but Cast Members do not make you feel you like you shouldn’t be, as a matter of fact it is encouraged. Make sure to get your map when you go in so you don’t miss any spots. They do give out the good stuff! So do it! Afterall, isn’t that why we love Disney, we get to be a kid again and forget about the outside world.
You must try at least one of the specialty snacks. I always get at least a cupcake. This year I will also be trying the Maleficent ice cream cone. I love Mal, but that is for another article. Don’t forget the Starbucks on Main Street, you will need the caffeine to keep you going.
While we are on the subject of Maleficent, be sure to check out the Halloween merchandise. Alex and Ani have 4 new bracelets for the 4 most popular villains. I just got the Maleficent one and it is amazing. They also have a Hocus Pocus bracelet that is sold at the party only.
There is quite a bit of party only merchandise. It does tend to sell out fast, unfortunately. One little but important thing I just learned is that you can order stuff directly from the WDW app. If you order through ShopDisney you can not use your Annual Passholder discount but you can if you order through the WDW app. I recently went to order the Alex and Ani Maleficent bracelet through Shop Disney and it was sold out. I looked on the WDW app and there it was. I got my AP discount and got it under a week. Just got it yesterday and I love it!!
The Hocus Pocus stage show is a must see. I will be honest, I am not the biggest fan of the movie but the stage show is a must see. Never go to the first one! Way too crowded.
The most amazing fireworks I have ever seen is Hallowishes. Do not miss it! You can see them from many points all over the park, but the best view would be from the train platform. Get up there early enough and you may just find a seat. Either way, do not miss it! If you don’t want to stay in the park you can also see them from The Polynesian and Grand Floridian. They are both just a short boat ride away.
The parade is also my favorite. I live to see the Headless Horseman every year. You must get a seat very early. He usually rides a few minutes before the rest of the parade. The second parade is the least crowded. Don’t get me wrong it is still crowded, but a bit less. Stay for the entire parade, especially if you have never seen it before. You will be amazed.
There are also dance parties and your favorite Disney characters dressed in their best Halloween costumes. I no longer have young children but the best tip of all is to look at the kids around you at any given moment. Seeing everything through a child’s eyes is just beyond words. The look on their face says it all.
