2018 brought a lot to the table for the Walt Disney Company. It saw the opening of Toy Story Land and Pixar Pier, the expansion of ESPN Wide World of Sports and the continued popularity of Pandora in Animal Kingdom. We celebrated Mickey’s 90th Birthday, the 25th Anniversary of the Walt Disney World Marathon and International Flower and Garden Festival and the 20th Anniversary of Animal Kingdom.
So, this leaves us with what 2019 will bring… STAR WARS!!!!!!

Ok yes, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be opening this year in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland, much to the delight of geeks everywhere (such as myself). There is so much more to cover this year though, so we can’t just focus on this….even though we want to….
As if Hollywood Studios does not have enough going on with Galaxy’s Edge, the opening of Mickey’s new ride, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, will be in the Fall.

Transportation gets a new view this year as the Skyliner is set to open in Walt Disney World this Fall. It will bring people between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot as well as several resorts.

Speaking of resorts, new resort openings populate 2019 with the expansion of Coronado Springs as well as Disney’s Riviera Resort, a new Disney Vacation Club property being built between Hollywood Studios and Epcot. We will have our next D23 Expo in Anaheim, California this August. The popularity of the theme park announcements at these events seem to ebb and flow, but hopes for this year are high for announcements related to changes in Epcot, information on the new Disney Cruise ships and the upcoming 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World.
What’s happening in the short term?
January brings us Marathon Weekend and Festival of the Arts to Walt Disney World. There will also be new Pixar Meet and Greets debuting this month and Mickey and Minnie’s Surprise Celebration. Three Kings Day will be celebrated in Disneyland as well as the triumphant return of the Mickey’s Soundsational Parade and the debut of Mickey’s Mix Magic; a new nighttime spectacular featuring Mickey himself.
Quite the exciting year we have in store for those who enjoy the Disney Parks! What are you most excited about in 2019? Are you looking forward to staying in a new resort?
