There’s a Typhoon in Florida

Home > Destinations > There’s a Typhoon in Florida

June 15, 2022 by Erin Benge

Florida has reached record heat this week, and it’s just the beginning of summer. Which means it’s a perfect time to visit a Typhoon in Florida, Typhoon Lagoon. One of two of Disney’s water parks on site (at the time of this writing, Blizzard Beach is still closed) and great way to spend the day relaxing and cooling off.

Typhoon Lagoon

This was Disney’s second water park to open on property, after Disney’s River Country, which closed in November 2001. Touted as home to the “World’s Largest Wave Pool” it opened on June 1, 1989. And you can even body surf in it.

Backstory of the park is the “Disney legend” of a typhoon that wreaked havoc upon a formerly perfect tropical paradise. The storm flung ships, fishing gear and surfboards throughout the island. Everything has been left where it landed, even Miss Tilly. She’s a shrimp boat that was impaled on “Mount Mayday”. A mountain that erupts a 50-foot geyser of water every half hour. Watch out for “Lagoona Gator”, she’s the mascot and can be spotted throughout the park.

It did close, along with the other Walt Disney World parks in March of 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although when the theme parks reopened on July 11 – 15, 2020, the water parks remained closed. Then after being closed for almost two years, it reopened again on January 2, 2022.

1 Park – Over 10 Attractions

Typhoon Lagoon has something for everyone, from thrills to just chill. Fast slides, lazy rivers and giant wave pools to help cool you off.

Bay Slides – Twin body slides that are even good for the littlest Mouseketeers

Castaway Creek – This scenic river encircles the entire water park and a great way to float the heat away

Crush ‘n’ Gusher – This coaster-like raft ride will thrill you during the whole 400 foot long chute, including some uphill climbs

Gangplank Falls – Wind down on the side of the mountain on an oversized inner tube, enjoying a scenic view all the way down

Humunga Kowabunga – Get ready for a near-vertical drop, in the dark for 5 stories !

Keelhaul Falls – After climbing to the top of Mount Mayday, you can enjoy a swift, scenic ride down down the side

Ketchakiddee Creek – Littlest Mouseketeers have their own special area designed just for them, with enough to keep them entertained all day

Mayday Falls – Now’s the time to brave the rapids, and the bumps, on the longest and highest waterslide at Typhoon Lagoon

Miss Adventure Falls – Take you and 3 of your closest friends (or make new ones) for a thrilling, whitewater voyage abroad a 4-person raft

Storm Slides – Choose one of three slides for a thrilling ride into a splashdown ending

Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool – 6′ swells are just the norm, for North America’s largest wave pool and the water park’s signature attraction

Check out the Disney website, for more information about Typhoon Lagoon and each ride.

Let’s Spend the Day

Ticket prices for a 1 day experience at Typhoon Lagoon are $69 plus tax for ages 10 and up. Little ones, ages 3 – 9, are only $63 plus tax. Also a great add on to your existing theme park ticket with the Park Hopper plus Option. This gives you the option of spending mornings in the parks and afternoons on the lazy river.

And don’t forget to let your favorite Enchanted Adventures agent know that you want to add the Park Hopper Plus to your tickets, so you can ride the Typhoon.
