How many tires do the cars on Test Track have ? They actually have 22 !! There are 18 that are attached to a rail system that are responsible for moving the car, and they are underneath the car. The 4 on the outside don’t have any control and are merely for show.
Before the ride was opened, they used those 4 outside tires to propel the car around the track, but it was so hard on the normal tires they had to be replaced every 14 laps. So a new type of tire was specially designed for the ride, making them ultra thin and able to last 30 – 35 days and added the 18 underneath to propel the car.
Here are a few other little facts about Test Track you may not have known…
The outside track is made from the same surface as a airplane carrier making it able to withstand the constant Florida heat, the continually running of the ride and up to 200 mph of hurricane force winds.
The Test Track cars are also equipped with 6 breaking systems, for extra safety.
If you have ever ridden Test Track, you know with the new refurbishment riders are able to design their own car to “test” during the ride, but the time allotted is normally not enough to spend some time doing it. If you go into the shop at the exit, before you ride, you can design your vehicle, take as long as you want in the design phase, save it to your Magic Band and then you are ready to go. You can now ride with your “perfectly designed” test car.
